Beach that you can forget where you came from,
but close enough that you remember how to get
back there. We’re
curious about the tapering stretch of land that
extends below California...
I've
been wanting to get on Giant Gap for awhile, although
I admit I was a bit intimidated by it's reputation,
but I've been paddlign tons, and feeling pretty
solid in the kayak. This weekend flows were getting
into a decent range, though on the high side for
a "first
run" from what I'd been told...
I
apologize in advance for any errors, omissions,
or outright mistruths. I drank many margaritas
and took a few knocks on the head.
It's 3:45 AM on Friday,
and I drag myself out of bedand stumble
to my truck...
It was a few weeks ago that I was
up at the Kern River, and outside the local paddling
shop I noticed A simple black and white flyer,
advertising the Wildman Challange race. A couple
things caught my eye....
It's
4:15 in the morning. Monday. It's been a long weekend,
and now it's my day off. I should be sleeping in
but I peel myself out of bed, stumble to the car.
I stop for gas, and head to the shop...
Baja California is a wild place,
it’s further away in terms of culture and
people and standard of living than would seem possible
for such a short distance. One could easily see
from upscale San Diego suburbs to the squalor of
a Tijuana slum...
SF
of Silver Creek is most well known for it's more
difficult upper reaches, but below Icehouse reservoir,
there is a gorgeous, fun dramatic Class IV. With
an average gradient of 70 feet per mile...
