Shuswap Kayaks S.O.K. One Tough Son of A.... KAYAK!!!

No matter what the weather is like - summer or winter, rain or snow - GuyThaLizard is somewhere on the water in Southern British Columbia. This is one tough, dedicated kayaker. Here's his video from yesterday when it was chilly and snowed everywhere and while the rest of us sat inside, snuggly warm and cozy... Wow!

Dan Crandall Cold Water Kayaking - Dress for Success!

More and more of today's newer paddling crowd is finding out what the old timers already knew-- that some of the best paddling in many areas is found in the colder months of Fall through Spring. Equipment can play a huge part in whether you have a safe and successful paddle, or just the makings of a new epic tale to tell. (<:

There are many different configurations for dressing to paddle in the cold, but here are a few tips that are relevant for a wide range of paddlers, whether…

Geoff Jennings Wilderness Systems Tempest 180 Pro for sale - Very good, nearly new condition.

I've got a Tempest for sale in Southern California. It's in VERY good condition, having only been in the water a handful of times (less than 5-6).  I simply don't use it.  My wife and I paddle our Wilderness Systems tandem a lot, but I just don't use this kayak much.  We're moving to a smaller place, and I've got to downsize the fleet a little.

This is an awesome sea kayak, especially for those of us who are slightly bigger than average.  I'm a former instructor and guide, and I've…

Shuswap Kayaks A Trusty Waterproof Camera For On The Water

Since the big splash of my nice Canon into Shuswap Lake earlier this year, I have been using a new Kodak point-and-shoot camera, model EasyShare Sport C123. A very simple, compact and extremely user-friendly digital camera that is waterproof up to 5 meters or six feet. Powered by a set of common AA batteries, in combination of an eight giga bite SD card makes the video shooting…

Robert Riordan Upcoming trip on the Kickapoo brings back good memories

The Kickapoo Mud is Deep, one of the many catch phrases that would come to define our 3 day 2 night paddle down the Kickapoo River. It was the weekend of October 9th in 2010, and it was 80 degrees in Wisconsin and the fall colors were amazing. We joked about a fake restaurant called The Beef Cave whose very existence was an innuendo, it turned out to be some of the most fun I have ever had. I Kayaked and two of my… Continue

Robert Riordan Kayaking in Central Wisconsin

At 24 years of age I have lived in Wausau Wisconsin my entire life, but only in the past two years have I discovered the amazing Kayaking opportunities my home area has to offer. Wausau is a wonderful town with vast natural resources always just minutes, if not seconds away. From the age of 3 to 21 I lived on Lake Wausau with my parents, so we always had boats around, though I must admit it wasn't until about the age of 20 that I began to Kayak. I Kayaked a couple times before at my…

Shuswap Kayaks Tappen and Salmon Arm Bays Kayak Circum Navigation 28 July 2011

Circum Navigation... hmmm, sounds good. Circum navigating the Tappen and Salmon Arm Bays, starting at Canoe wharf was one thing I had been thinking of for some time. I paddled several times from Canoe to Christmas Island, Salmon Arm's Bay bird sanctuary and back. A good jaunt of approx. 16 Km.

Today at 7:30 am I hit the water at Canoe wharf and angled over to Sunnybrae and on to Tappen Bay. The north end which is closed for boats has a lot of wetland wilderness and I counted half a…

Shuswap Kayaks Hard Core Kayaker - A Man Called "GuyTha Lizard"

Who can truly say that they are hard core kayakers when they go home when things get nasty? Things such as wind and waves on a lake so big it could swallow an entire city. Okanagan Lake is known to be placid one minute and violent the next. What might be a sheer exhilaration to a wind surfer is not necessarily the same to a flat-water kayaker. But there are a few exceptions and one is Guy Hoffman, also known as "GuyThaLizard" of Penticton, British Columbia. He goes out just about daily and…

Shuswap Kayaks Summer Power Boating - A Seasonal Hazard for Paddlers

With the summer boating season just about to start, we like to remind all paddlers to be extra cautious about power boats on Shuswap waterways. Due to the lacking law enforcement, in particular on Shuswap Lake, an increase of irresponsible power boating and jet…

Steve Opfer MF of the Salmon running very high right now, my trip might get cancelled.

Water flows & levels on the MF of the Salmon are running very high.  I leave in 5 days and put in on the 3rd of July.  The current trip only took 4 of 12 boaters who scheduled for the trip due to the high water. The entire 1st 25 miles are running as non-stop class IVs according to a guide report.  I've invested so much cash, this could so suck.

And Yes I've got trip insurance, but that doesn't change the suck quotent if this gets modified or cancelled.
