Berner commented on mushinzencat's group Great Lakes Paddlers
"I have gotten away from daily paddling and would like to remedy that at least on a weekly basis. Anyone in the WNY area looking to get some paddling in any day of the week and have some company, let me know. "

Trip Report - 2009 South Bass Island Kayak Rendezvous

WOW - First off, Huge Thank You to all the Organizers. Once again I had a fantastic long weekend at this event.

I've said it before - I'll say it again - you owe it to yourself to go and experience SBIKR. Every year it falls on the second weekend after Memorial Day. You might as well start planning now to go in 2010.

Thursday 06/04/09

Checked and printed out NOAA forecasts - check.

Checked in on various Boards - check.

Packed up gear and clothes, sea… Continue

Trip Report - Lake St Clair was somewhat peeved that day...

Saturday May 16th, 2009

NOAA and the other forecasts promised that the rain would leave the area by 11:00am. SpecterMike and I agreed to meet up at Metro Beach Metropark at 12:30pm.

When we got there it was still raining a little. We launched from a dirt ramp used by the sailboarders just west of the concrete jet ski launch. We paddled out into a light sprinkle and strong s/sw winds of about 15-20mph. I didn't like the look of the weather as we had a storm cell… Continue

TR - Mike Buys a Kayak

First off - an apology. I forgot that I had turned down the picture file size on my camera as an experiment. (Upload times have really been s. l.. o... w....) The pics attached to this TR aren't as good as I'd like. After looking at this batch, I returned the camera to the previous settings...

Secondly - thanx to everyone who has helped out and/or suffered through my efforts to help my friend, Mike, get a deal on a used sea kayak. Stand down troops, mission accomplished. It is…

It was a beautiful day Saturday.

My friend, Mike, wants to get back into kayaking. Starting about ten years ago, up until about 4 years ago, he used to go out to Point Pelee and rent kayaks to paddle around the point. Now he misses it and wants to buy a kayak and get into it big time for a hobby... (Hmmm, don't know… Continue

TR: North Maumee Bay - This Is What Happens When I "Think"

Saturday March 21st, 2009.

Of course I was running a little late... Started loading my kayak and found that I needed to tighten up the overhead rack on my truck. This was after trying (unsuccessfully) to convince Nephew Gabe that he wasn't too sick to paddle a little...

So I arrived solo at the put-in (DNR Boat Ramp off Algonquin St. in Erie, MI) at 1:15PM not 1:00PM. Saw a guy there who was readying a Prijon Kodiak... Said "Hey, how ya doin'... Where ya goin'..." Stuff… Continue
