The Werner Sherpa in the shop has a fiberglass shaft and blade. If your other/longer Werner paddle is lighter it must be of carbon fiber construction.
If your kayak is very narrow you can achieve an upright paddle stroke with a very short paddle. When the kayak is wider you will need a longer paddle to reach beyond the sides.

Kathy, if you are looking for a paddle for surf, there is a Werner Sherpa small diameter 197 cm in stock at Central Coast Kayaks. It might be just the right length for the Kaos since the kayak is a bit wide.
