I absolutely love swamps, only we call them salt marshes here although some of the bayous are decidedly swampy. I fish them often and usually with pretty good success. It does make me nervous when I come across an alligator though.
Here's a pic of me slogging through the mud last weekend.

Swamps, marshes, wetlands... Great opportunities to observe wildlife there. As long as you don't mind portaging in mud...
It's worth it - just don't forget the bug spray ;)
