I was just about to send in my registration for the intermediate waveski division when I saw the post about using the B-site as a buffer to keep boardies out of the "real" contest site.

I know to the folks in Santa Cruz and the regulars the contest is holy, but if you have to drive 500 miles ,8 hours each and pay $200 for motels it would be nice to have it be a pleasant experience.

I had no chance of doing very well at Ventura and I think the board surfers did pretty much respect the contest zone, but there were several waves I could have taken when there were a pack of boardies creeping into the south side of the contest zone, and blocked me taking off ...nothing like what happened to Ricky Miller though...

Anyway if anybody surfed in the intermediate divisions last year - was the event well run at the B -site, was it easy to get your jersey, and were the heat times easy to follow and were there board surfers to fight for the waves?

I didn't make it to SC last year, but have the 4-5 years before that. The B site is rarely an issue for boardies. It's when the waves are good and Middle peak is working that the board surfers become an issue.
Val,

I know of no issues with the heat times or problems getting the jerseys. The heat times are posted and the heats run coincident with the A-site so there aren't a bunch of different horns going off. The jerseys are kept by the judging station for the B-site and a volunteer is there to hand them out and check them back in.

I think the use of the term "buffer" was not well thought through.

Wave size is dependent on swell and direction and tide height, but if there's a good swell running from the NW, there'll be waves at B-site.

As Geoff said, the boardie issue tends to be more out at The Lane and not at Indicators (B-site).
