What about the Perception Tribe SOT 9.5 for a beginner?
Comment by Robin Flannery on August 8, 2012 at 1:39am

Well i have found the perception freedom. its about 13.5 foot. its a nice but the ride is a little low, makes it very stable but i weigh about 18 stone and i get a wet ass, also if camping then the weight of the extra kit will mean you defo get a wet ass. the middle hatch can be venerable to becoming under the water line. A friend has the tarpon 140 and 120 and tried the 160, the 160 is fast but you really need that rudder as turning it was a pain, the 140 and 120 are both very nice boats in deed, the seat is a bit higher and the ride a bit dryer, but still a very stable kayak, however the holes made for the rudder cables can be a weakness, and sometimes need plugging if your not using a rudder (small 5 mm holes for cable) the holes should already be sealed but just take a look to be sure :), . The feel free moken was not very nice, it has a wheel on the back to help move it on land. but it makes it suck big time in the water... i will be upgrading soon, and have my eye on the ultra 4.7, this looks to be the nuts, can carry 280 kg and being so long it will be faster, this is needed if like me you start to explore the big blue sea, where covering long miles is a given.

I'm new here.

I've been paddling off and on for 5 yrs, never really much untill now, I own a carolina 145 and a pungo 120, I want to get a SOT and joined this forum to understand them better.

If you have any advice, please share

Inflatable Kayaks. Just wondering, how is the tracking on an inflatable kayak?

Hi all, just joined up and wanted to say hi. What a great site.

I use my sit on top all the time, I have 2 perception freedoms (13 foot) one for me and the missis, we often go overnight camping with friends on the kayaks.

I lost a leg in a road accident a few years ago but using a prosthetic and a sit on top kayak I can go anywhere I like (as long as theirs water!)

Such a great bit of kit, easy to get on and off, can pack it full of gear, tents, tarp, chairs, blankets, pillows, table, even take a spare carp bevy to use as a kitchen tent. Try doing that when you go for a hike on the moor!.

Love sit on top kayaks, if you’re thinking of getting one, then go and do it,, and do it now :)

Get up early and get on the water, there is nothing better. Happy paddling to all.
