Learning to kayak

I was just given a new kayak and need some tips. I canoe and all other types of motorized watercraft, but am finding it difficult to "get the hang of paddling". Any tips would be appreciated. Also, the lake I use is calm and on the advice of a girlfriend I'm staying on the outline of the lake, can I just skip across? I've only tried it once so far and it seemed fine. HELP!!!!See More

2012-05-18 Kayaking trip to Rattlesnake Island by GuyThaLizard

Okanagan Lake is famous for its beauty but also equally well known for sudden weather changes associated by strong winds and big waves. A few paddlers have taken on this multi-day route, but Guy Hoffman probably is the only one who  paddled it solo more than once.“It started off with a head wind from the North and continued all weekend. We managed to make it as far as Buchan Bay but to cross Squally Point with a strong head wind wasn’t wise so we aborted the plan to continue and turned back…See More

How to Store a Kayak Properly (Rotomould – Plastic Models)

Okay, so it's the time when people go and look to buy or sell kayaks. One thing, I keep running into again and again, is that many know very little about how to properly "store" them in order to prolong their life time. Before buying used - or new, make sure to check the condition of the hull. Deformations of the plastic (in the case of plastic models) tell tale about how it was stored or transported. Avoid buying dented kayaks just because they're good deal. You'll never forgive yourself when…See More

Tsunami 145 by Wilderness Systems - Kayaks for Big People

There you are, ready to buy a kayak… Suddenly, all of your dreams seem shattered as you discover the boat you fantasized about – is too small for you! Rule of thumb is, you need to try ‘em out or at least get to sit in the model you are interested in. As many kayaks are manufactured nowadays overseas, it is hard to find one that fits a bigger person – that includes the average male size feet of 12. It’s like trying to find pants in a department store with a waist size larger than 30……

How to build your Own Bait or Chum Bucket!

Buy a regular 5 gallon bucket with a cover from a home improvement store next to you, use a bit size 3/16 and start drilling hole all over the bucket including the bottom too. Add a total of 4 Nylon Eyelets with rivet using rivet gun at the top of the bucket, connect them with bungee cords and run them through the top cover to secure the bucket while in the water. You can always use larger drill bit for larger hole for larger bait fish to keep alive or use it as chum bucket
